The Gillis Jetty

Actually, it’s more like a pile of big rocks and some rusty metal. It’s kind of a sorry excuse for a jetty. It seems that the folks who built it didn’t even finish building it. I’m sure there is some good story around why it looks the way it does, but I’m not aware of it. Whatever the case, it’s still called the Gillis Jetty and I was going to shoot it.
I got rained on a bit at the beginning of the shoot, but after running for shelter on the lifeguard tower a couple times I was able to get the shots I wanted for today’s shoot.




Serious mysterioso going on in these images. The second one looks like a semi-beached, baleen, whale-rock creature.
Philip, I saw the whale too as I was going through the images on my computer. The wave breaking in the background almost looks like a whale’s tail.
These photos are eerily beautiful. I’m looking forward to following this project of yours MikeKim.
Eerie. Like a wrecked WWII U-boat whose conning tower fell off. The ghosts of the crew are still there, it feels like.
[...] of cool. There was a whole lot less debris and seaweed that had washed up onto the beach than the last time I came to photograph this jetty. Luckily, the weather was a whole lot nicer today too! The Gillis [...]
